Romans 12:18  New King James Version  (NKJV)

18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

It is no understatement to say that we live in divisive times and chaotic days. Divisions have been amplified and supercharged on Social Media. From politics to health related responses, to the pandemic, to faith itself…..everywhere is division. Harsh words are common…Brutality and intentional harm are routine on Social Media, at school board and government meetings. There are wars and rumors of wars abroad and at home.

What can we do as believers?

What should we do as followers of Christ?

The Apostle Paul was clear for our role – Paul acknowledges in Romans 12:18, some things we can’t control. Disputes and confrontations may come and we had nothing to do with. Unfortunately due to sin, we can be the source of trouble and escalators of issues shaming our testimony – but the great call to peacemaking by our Savior, in the beatitudes, cannot be forgotten, nor diminished.

As much as it depends on you…..As we have agency, influence or will to power,

We are to entertain and pursue peaceful relations; not with our favs, or tribe, or team, but everyone.

Imagine how great the change would be on the job, on the road, in our public spaces, in our homes, and churched, if we strived to live at peace with everyone.

This year make it your mission, your practice, your goal to live at peace with everyone.

Stay prayed up,

Rev Rodrick K. Burton
